Summersales Colliery

Part of the old Summersales Colliery site, just off Merton Road.

I believe that’s Teal Close you can see in the background — unless anyone can put us right!

Coal mining here finished in 1966, but parts of the old site and buildings remained for years afterwards.

I’m sure plenty of Highfield youngsters explored and played down here over the years.
