Memorial Garden

On 30th of June we posted about the potential to have a memoral garden on the spare land at the endof Foundary Lane. The post generated a huge ammount of interest and positive comments came flooding in!

Since then the council and local councilors have been in touch and we are now well underway in securing the funding for this project!

This site used to be the location of the old Iron Church and is now sitting as a grassy area with little use or purpose.

It is owned by the church (Liverpool Diocese) and we have asked if we could lead in the development of the site into a garden of remembrance.

A beautifully landscaped space with flowers, benches, and a quiet place to sit and reflect... with the Ross Shoe Works war memorial (known locally as the Slipper Works) taking pride of place.

The memorial honours the employees of Ross Shoe Works who gave their lives during the Second World War and has recently been beautifully cleaned up, ensuring it will be preserved for generations to come.

At the moment, it sits quietly behind St Matthew's Church, where many people probably don't even realise it's there. Highfield has very few public green spaces, and this could create somewhere special for remembrance, reflection and community pride, while also bringing new life to a historically important corner of the village.

Kep your eyes pealed as we progress onto the consultation phase of the funding application. We need you to engage with this to secure it!
